Ellie Buerk

Ellie Buerk is an associate attorney at HSGLaW, practicing in the firm’s Class Actions and Complex Litigation group.

Ellie earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and received her law degree from Case Western Reserve University School of Law, where she graduated magna cum laude and in the top five percent of her class.

Prior to law school, Ellie worked as a beat reporter for her hometown newspaper, the Toledo Blade. While operating out of a hole-in-the-wall office on the first floor of the Lucas County Common Pleas courthouse, she covered both civil and criminal matters.

During law school, Ellie completed her capstone externing for the Honorable Judge Charles E. Fleming in the Northern District of Ohio. She also interned with preeminent non-profit organizations, including Human Rights Watch and the Conservation Law Foundation. She is perhaps most proud of her time with the Kramer Environmental Law Clinic, where she served environmental justice communities in the Greater Cleveland area and learned about the importance of movement lawyering in practice.

Also while in law school, Ellie served on the executive board of Case Western’s Journal of International Law, which published her Note (“Sacrifice Zone: Conciliating Racial Discrimination in Louisiana’s “Cancer Alley” Under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination”) in the spring of 2025. She also acted as the Executive Director of the Yemen Accountability Project, a student-led war crimes initiative, and as captain of Case Western’s award-winning Jessup International Moot Court team.

Ellie spends her free time with her husband and their dog exploring their new home, Cincinnati.
